Pleasantville village officials weigh options to improve pedestrian safety

The Pleasantville Village Board of Trustees is considering a resolution Monday evening that would request New York State Department of Transportation install a red-light camera near the intersection of Saw Mill River Parkway and Grant Street.
Residents tell News 12 it’s a problem intersection that sees many traffic accidents. Many people frequent the crosswalk, including commuters walking to the Metro-North station and children walking to school.
The village is also considering reducing the speed limit on village roads from 30 mph to 25 mph. It’s a recommendation from the village’s Pedestrian Safety Committee.
Some residents are also petitioning the village to help install a traffic beacon at Manville Road and Academy Street. Parents of students in the Pleasantville School District tell News 12 that intersection is dangerous.
One parent said drivers speed through the school zone and pose a danger to students walking to and from school.
