Three people in Mount Vernon were injured in a shooting overnight on the 300 block of South 4th Avenue.
Police say two of the victims were shot. However, a total of three people were hospitalized due to injuries.
Mount Vernon police and New York State Police officers were investigating the incident as of Sunday night.
Access to the street was temporarily restricted by authorities on Sunday morning. Some residents of the street nearby were not permitted to enter the area and reach their homes.
Resident Ernesto Thermidor told News 12 that found out about the incident after seeing police activity in the neighborhood.
"I walked into my apartment and then walked out this morning. Then the police line 'do not cross' and everything was there,” he said.
"You're just seeing all the trucks everywhere, seeing the lights going, you're seeing a lot of people that have badges and guns walking around,” he said. “So, you’re a little bit on edge."
Officers were seen going to several houses on the street to gather information later in the morning.
"They asked me questions to see if my Ring camera picked up any information, any type of pictures or any surveillance,” said resident Faith Walters.
Walters said the incident may have stemmed from an event that occurred on the street next to her home. However, that had not been confirmed by the authorities as of Sunday evening.
“That's what I’m hearing from my neighbor, that here was a party going on a few houses down and it got out of hand,” she said.
There were no arrests made as of Sunday night.
An incident notification report on the shooting from Mount Vernon police indicated that, "All further information will be released by New York State Police."
News 12 contacted police investigators for more details on the shooting but had not received a response from them as of Sunday night.
