A man was arrested for trespassing at Eastchester High School Wednesday, forcing the school into lockdown.
Police say the man is known to police and the district, and is the same person who tried to enter Waverly School last month.
The latest incident happened just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday when the superintendent says the man was oddly walking along White Plains Road.
That’s when police were dispatched to the area, following him with two patrol cars until he veered off the sidewalk toward the front door of the high school.
The school district and a school security guard, contracted with Briger Security, were unaware police were following the man into the high school building.
The security guard buzzed him through without following proper procedure to vet the man beforehand, according to the superintendent.
And that’s when the man began running into the building, triggering a lockdown and chase within high school hallways involving staff security and police.
He was soon escorted out of the high school and placed under custody.
The superintendent says the district has enhanced security protocol through the past several years with continued work alongside the Eastchester Police Department. "This is the second or third time this individual has attempted to get on school property when he shouldn't be. Because of that, it causes justifiable concern and we're going to make sure that anyone who can help assist in the situation is brought to the table to try to help," says Eastchester School Superintendent Dr. Robert Glass.
The security guard has since been relieved of duty at the district.
News 12 is told school was not in session at the time aside from a few students taking Regents exams, and the intruder did not make any threats of harm or possess any weapon at the time of his arrest.
