Scholarships are now being offered in Westchester in an effort to encourage more people of color to pursue a career in law enforcement.
The Westchester County Chiefs of Police Association released a recruitment video offering 100 scholarships to a civil service exam prep class.
The exam is only offered once every five years and is required to become a police officer. "We want to make sure that not only are people aware of the exam, but they've got all the tools to succeed and we want to make sure those tools are distributed evenly across our communities and everyone has a fair chance,” says Ossining Police Chief Kevin Sylvester.
The civil service exam will be held in Westchester on May 15. The deadline to apply is March 29.
