A female pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on a busy street Friday night in Wallkill, police say.
Authorities say the victim was pronounced dead at around 11:00 p.m. after being hit by a Ford Escape on Route 211 near the Route 17 interchange.
The driver remained at the scene and police interviewed witnesses following the incident.
Route 211 is one of the busiest roads in the area, according to authorities.
State police say they had the westbound lanes closed as they conducted their investigation. The lanes were reopened sometime after midnight.
