Peekskill police said on Tuesday that a man is in custody following a report of a person with a gun.

The identity of the man was unclear at the time of the initial report, however officers said he was taken into custody.

Police didn't announce why the man had a gun with him in the first place.

However, Mike Jensen, a man who said he is family friends with the person taken into custody, said the situation allegedly stemmed from a complaint about noise from some road work.

"You know, my buddy woke up, he wasn't happy about it. Thought it was earlier than it was. Told them to stop," Jensen said.

Jensen said this is when his family friend allegedly got angry.

"[He] went back and forth. Yelled a couple things and it kind of turned into a threatening situation," Jensen said.

Police said the investigation is still going on.

News 12 saw a group of Con Edison contractors sitting down on the side of the road a few feet away from the scene.

They told News 12 off camera that they were doing some gas line utility work on Tuesday morning.

They added that they weren't making much noise because they were "digging by hand."

A person who lives nearby the construction said he didn't hear them.

"Yeah, I work at night. So, I'm asleep during the day until about this time. So, I didn't hear anything," the neighbor said.

Con Edison sent a statement to News 12 saying they are aware of the situation. They added that "In New York, assaulting a utility worker is a felony and we condemn threats or acts of violence against our workforce.”

Peekskill police are asking anyone with information about the incident to give them a call.
