News 12 has learned new details from Ramapo police about an investigation into a fire that happened at a home in Kaser on Thanksgiving eve.

We're told that Ramapo police learned the homeowner called Matzeli Aish, which authorities described as a non-certified fire brigade, when that fire happened last month. It is not known if 911 was called.

"911 should always be called," said Chris Kear, the director of Rockland's fire and emergency services.

He says people should not call this group.

"You're putting yourselves at risk if you're a resident, you're putting the community at risk, you're putting the firefighters who are now delayed to respond, you're putting them at risk," says Kear.

Last week, police arrested 26-year-old Jacob Silberstein for allegedly obstructing firefighting operations during that fire.

The Monsey man is accused of grabbing a fire hose from a local department's truck and attaching it to a hydrant without approval when it wasn't properly connected. Authorities say he's with Matzelei Aish.

There was no answer at the address News 12 found for the group. News 12 left a voicemail for the group's phone number and the man who is facing the misdemeanor charges.

News 12 previously reported the group disconnected a clothes dryer they believed to be the source of a carbon monoxide leak, then left.

When the local fire department was later called, first responders found a heating unit to be the issue, which was then shut down.
