'Tis the season...to have your packages stolen.
A new report shows nearly 50 million Americans had a delivery taken from them in the last year and the problem only gets worse around the holidays.
The Carmel Police Community Relation Team spent the day reminding people about the dangers of porch pirates this holiday season.
They are no strangers to package theft: the department helped bust a fraud and package theft ring there last year.
Two people were convicted of stealing people's credit card information, shipping packages to homes there and coming by to steal thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise.
Police say neighbors noticed packages being delivered to vacant homes and alerted police about the suspicious activity - similar awareness could help people this holiday season.
"It's good if your neighbors are just looking out for you or even if you just text some of your neighbors if you're not home and expecting a package or anything like that just to keep an eye out," says Town of Carmel Police Department Detective Daniel Shea.
