State police are asking witnesses to come forward after a crash in the town of Wallkill last weekend that killed a mother and Orange County phlebotomist who just celebrated her 35th birthday.
Sara Williams lived for her fiancée, Gary Gochenour, and their beautiful family – but on Sunday, her life was cut tragically short and theirs were changed forever.
“There’s no words to describe the devastation,” said Gochenour. "All she wanted in life was to be a good mom and that’s what she became."
Williams moved to Dingmans Ferry from Newburgh and was an emergency room phlebotomist at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Her fiancee is a firefighter in Castle Point.
Gochenour says he was at work and Williams had just dropped off their kids, 3 year-old Emily and 1-year-old Ryder, at her parents.
He says she was going to the gym when she was killed in a two-car crash on I-84 in the town of Wallkill.
State police say Williams’ car and another collided, flipping Williams’ Dodge over and off the highway.
“I’ve been looking at Emily. She still looks around a bit. I’m trying to figure things out because she just doesn’t understand. Those kids were everything to Sarah,” said Gochenour.
And Sarah was everything to them.
Her fiancee held her ring in his hand, that police gave him after the crash, during News 12's entire interview.
"They had taken the ring off, and so I haven’t really taken it off me yet.”
Gochenour says the couple was planning a fairytale Cinderalla wedding that unfortunately now will never happen.
Police say the driver of the second car is OK.
They’re asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward with information.
"If anyone has any information - it’s not about fault. It’s about closure," said Gochenour.
Anyone with information about the fatal accident is asked to call state police at 845-344-5300.
