A 17-year-old Yonkers Public Schools high school student Tuesday for was arrested for making threats "to shoot up the school," according to Yonkers police.
Authorities say other students came forward and reported the comments to the school administration.
No physical acts were carried out in support of the threats.
The teen is charged with making a terroristic threat, a class D felony.
Due to his age, he will be processed as an adolescent offender. No identifying information will be released, including the name of the school.
In a
statement, District Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada said they too
commend the actions of those students and staff who spoke up, as well as the
swift action of the school administration and the Yonkers police.
He
said young people need to understand the consequences that result from poor
decisions made, such as making threats.
