A movement was held at the Port Jervis Police Department Friday to empower sexual abuse survivors to speak out and report crimes.
The question asked was "how will you respond?' if a sexual abuse survivor came to you for help.
Advocates with Orange County Rape Crisis Services and Port Jervis police say the majority of sex crimes go unreported out of a victim's fear of not being believed.
That's why they are localizing the international Start by Believing campaign to help promote improved responses to victims of sexual assault, encourage reporting and promote victims' well-being.
Authorities urge victims of sexual assault to contact their local police or rape crisis service center. The Orange County number is 800-832-1200.
