Anti-violence advocates are stepping in to help their community, following a violent 24 hours in the city of Poughkeepsie.

The city faced a series of gun violence incidents on Tuesday that resulted in the city’s fourth gun homicide of the year.

Police say one man was found dead on Mansion Street around 1 a.m. Tuesday. The second shooting happened just a few hours later on North

White Street resulted in one person injured. Authorities say the city’s third shooting happened later Tuesday night when gunfire erupted at a

softball game at College Hill Park. News 12 is told no one was struck.

Poughkeepsie’s gun violence prevention program, SNUG, has increased its hours after Tuesday’s string of violence.

SNUG senior outreach worker Shahiem Smith said the organization is already mobilizing to support families and coordinate outreach programs.

"Things like peace walks and shooting response where we address the immediate community,” said Smith.

SNUG will be holding a Peace Walk on Friday, Aug. 12, at 3 p.m. The walk will start on North White Street and will end on Mansion Street where the latest homicide occurred.
