Despite the off-year election, there are plenty of big-ticket races here in the Hudson Valley.
Among them are races for county executive in Westchester, Rockland and Orange.

Westchester County executive

It's a rematch of a race that played out earlier this year in Westchester.
County Executive Ken Jenkins is looking to secure a full term after the Democrat beat his Republican opponent in a special election in February.
Jenkins received nearly two-thirds of the vote against Republican Christine Sculti seven months ago in the race to fill out the remainder of now-Rep. George Latimer's remaining term, which expires at the end of this year.
Many view the outcome of this race as a preview of the 2026 midterm elections.
Jenkins is hoping his time, even though brief, in the office will do enough to convince voters. He's running to promote affordability, control property taxes, remove guns from the streets and continue to reduce the county's carbon footprint.
Sculti previously served as former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino's chief advisor, making her the highest-ranking woman in that administration. She hopes to break through Westchester's "blue wall." If elected, she plans to crack down on immigration, stop spending increases and tax hikes, and establish an Office of Parental Rights.

Rockland County executive

Republican Ed Day, who has held this position since 2013, is hoping to secure a fourth term when voters head to the polls in November.
He's running to build on the county's recent financial success, boost economic growth and revitalize neighborhoods.
He does not have a Democratic opponent but is not running unopposed.
Ramapo community activist Michael Parietti is running as an independent on the Good Gov line, hoping to pull off the upset.
An outspoken Rockland native, Parietti is calling for more transparency in public service, a review of zoning and land use issues, and protection of the county's water.

Orange County executive

First elected in 2013 like Day, Republican Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus is vying for his fourth term in office.
Neuhaus is running on his record of dropping the county tax rate for nine consecutive years, investing millions of dollars for infrastructure improvements and attracting economically viable development projects.
His challenger is famed civil rights attorney Michael Sussman.
The Democrat previously served on the Wawayanda Town Board and as deputy town supervisor. He said he's running to fight corruption in county government, promote environmental justice and revitalize our the local economy.
