Power being restored in Putnam County after fast-moving storm

Power is slowly being restored to hundreds of residents tonight after a powerful, fast-moving storm blew through Putnam County on Thursday morning.
Neighbors said the worst part of the storm hit the Town of Carmel area around 8:30 a.m.
"The power was going in and out, the TV was flashing then we would go to black and it would come back because of the generator, so we did that maybe two or three times prior to it staying off and then the generator kicked in," Carmel resident Barbara Mockel said.
The Carmel Police Department issued a storm alert shortly before 9 a.m.
Officials warned that there were several trees down across town, including on Stoneleigh Avenue, Drewville Road and Weber Hill Road as well as Seminary Hill Road near Willow Road.
First responders said they were on the scene of at least two reported transformer fires on Cherry Hill Road and Drewville Road.
Cherry Hill Road was also one of the routes made impassable by the storm because of downed trees and power lines.
According to NYSEG, 700 customers across the county had lost power at the storm's peak.
Town officials warned that several flood-prone areas were covered with standing water.
Officials said the town, highway department and utility companies were working together to clear the roads and restore power, but no restoration times have been given just yet.
