Its official – the New York State GOP formally nominated Nassau County Bruce Blakeman for governor.
"I'm ready to fight for your children and grandchildren so that they can have a safer New York," he said at the convention in Garden City.
In his first one-on-one interview since accepting the nomination, Blakeman spoke about how he got here – and where he's heading.
"I feel very confident about the campaign, and I do expect to be governor," he said.
There hasn’t been a Republican governor in New York since George Pataki won in 2002.
