Tax procrastinators were banging down the doors of places like Liberty Tax Service in Yonkers Tuesday.

"A lot of people like to wait, especially if they owe, and they for whatever reason want to wait for the last minute to file so they're coming in and getting it done,” said Duke Tonta, of Liberty Tax.

Duke was on hand at the South Broadway location to help people file before it was too late.  He said it’s a painless process, usually 20 minutes or less.

He did note that there wasn’t as much foot traffic in years past, probably because many people are using software to do their taxes.

Those who decided to avoid lines and pay online had issues Tuesday after the IRS direct pay website was down, returning an error message, just hours before the deadline. The IRS extended the tax-filing deadline for all filers to midnight Wednesday, April 18 due to the glitch with the agency's website.
