Progress is being made, but frustration is growing in the Village of Warwick as crews continue to manage a battery storage fire that began Friday afternoon.
Convergent Energy and Power, which provides service to the industrial facility at 28 Church Street, remains on site, working alongside the Warwick Fire Department and Orange County hazmat teams.
Officials say no one is able to physically access the battery area yet because temperatures remain too high for manual fire suppression. Instead, crews are continuing to monitor conditions remotely using drone observations, including aerial footage provided by the Warwick Fire Department.
Village leaders say the situation is raising serious concerns within the community. Mayor Michael Newhard says residents want answers about how the fire happened and why it occurred again after assurances that safety issues had been addressed.
Officials say monitoring and mitigation efforts will continue until the site is deemed safe and a full investigation can begin.
