Mamaroneck is still reeling from the wrath of Ida, but there could be a project to prevent this type of damage from happening again.

Sen. Chuck Schumer officially got federal approval for the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake River Flood Risk Management Project.

The $100 million project would deepen and widen the rivers to slow flooding and would remove bridges that constrict flow.

The Village of Mamaroneck reported nearly $100 million in damage from Ida. The hope is that the investment will prevent millions more in future destruction and prevent other lives lost.

"As we know, global warming is getting worse. The storms are coming with greater rapidity and greater intensity. And here in the Village of Mamaroneck, especially in some of the neighborhoods that abut the rivers, are at the epicenter, the bullseye, the cutting edge of climate change," said Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy.
