The Putnam County Department of Health issued an alert after a feral cat was discovered to have rabies.

The cat was reportedly showing neurological signs of rabies near Peekskill Hollow and Tinker Hill roads.

The cat was safely transported to a veterinarian where it tested positive for rabies. This is the second confirmed case of rabies in Putnam Valley this year.

Strange behavior in an animal, such as acting unusually aggressive, may be a sign of rabies.

The Department of Health urges anyone who may have made contact with this cat to call them immediately at 845-808-1390.
