A regional union career and technical education informational event was held in Yorktown Thursday.

The Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES hosted the event, which gave both students and community members a chance to meet 14 different local unions. Attendees also learned about careers in architecture, carpentry, plumbing and welding.

Those who led the event said they are seeing a big need and desire for construction jobs.

"I think after the pandemic, I think a lot of students are seeing how important hands on trades are and how essential they are," said Samantha Vredenburgh, Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES school counselor.

This was the second year BOCES held the informational event.
