Police say a husband has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife inside her Herricks home.
Police say Asif Qureshi killed Aleena Asif at her home on Larch Drive last Friday. The killing happened about a week after she served him with divorce papers.
Asif was suffocated by an unknown chemical substance and had burns on her face, according to police.
Qureshi, 53, of Queens, had one prior domestic violence arrest with four other incidents reported.
Police say Quereshi began stalking Asif after the papers were served.
News 12 has been told Asif lived at the home with her three kids, ages 18, 14 and 7.
At Qureshi’s arraignment, his lawyer pleaded not guilty on his behalf and said his client denies the homicide.
Qureshi is being held without bail.
A man who identified himself as the victim’s brother told reporters that Aleena Asif was "a very beautiful human being” who “didn’t deserve this kind of death.”
Police said there had been five reported domestic incidents in this household.
The prosecutor said there was no video at the Herricks house because the family had disconnected the cameras, afraid of the defendant spying on them.
