A Ramapo police officer was ordered held without bail Monday after he was allegedly busted driving a stolen car that contained a ski mask and several guns.

Police in Ramsey, New Jersey arrested Officer James Curley, who lives in Suffern, Friday. They claim Curley was driving a stolen rental car when he was pulled over.

Curley allegedly waived a police badge, but officials say officers later discovered he was wanted in New York for the vehicle theft and possibly for other charges. They say warrants may also have been issued in Airmont and Suffern.

Police say Curley tried to flee the scene and was eventually subdued. Police say they recovered a ski mask, ammunition canisters, a knife, a rifle and other guns from the vehicle.

Michael Curley, the suspect's brother, says James is in distress, but things aren't as they seem. "He rented a car and I guess the payments haven't been credited correctly. The car company reported the rental car stolen," says Michael Curley.

According to Michael, his brother was recently cleared of accusations that he molested his young daughter after the officer passed a lie detector test. The 43-year-old cop, who has been on disability since 1990 for an ankle injury, is also going through a divorce.

Curley is awaiting extradition to New York. He was also wanted in New Jersey for previous harassment and stalking charges.
