REAL ID enforcement begins at Westchester County Airport

People flying within the United States must meet a new set of security requirements to board commercial flights.
Travelers at the Westchester County Airport in Harrison were asked to show a REAL ID, which is a federally compliant state-issued license or identification card marked with a star on the top right corner.
People who don't have a REAL ID can still fly domestically with other accepted forms of ID such as a U.S. passport, a military ID or a Global Entry Card.
Those who don't have acceptable forms of ID can still fly but they will be taken to a different security line and will need to go through extra steps of screening.
Security officials at Westchester Airport tell News 12 only five or six travelers needed to go through the extra screening.
The deadline for the new requirements comes 20 years after Congress passed the REAL ID law at the recommendation of the 9/11 Commission to strengthen safety standards.
TSA officials are recommending people who do not have a REAL ID, or other acceptable forms of identification, get to the airport three hours ahead of time to ensure they get through security and make their flights.
People can get a REAL ID at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
