Controversy continues to surround the Camp LaGuardia homeless shelter in Orange County.
The county recently purchased the shelter from New York City and plans to shut it down by July. A local realtor says he is upset the county isn?t considering other bids for the property. Robert Lawrence, a principle broker with Hudson Valley Realty, says his client, Waterfront Realty, wants to purchase the 200 acres of land to build a combination of commercial and residential properties.
Lawrence says an offer of $11.5 million is on the table. However, he claims the county is not considering the proposal. Meanwhile, Orange County Attorney David Darwin says Lawrence has yet to present an offer to the county on behalf of his client. Darwin adds, ?Camp LaGuardia is not for sale at this time and any offers on the property are premature. As we have previously stated, we?re in the process of establishing a committee to determine the best uses for the future of the property.?
