All New Yorkers 60 years old and older are now able to walk in and get a COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment at the New York National Guard Armory in Yonkers.

This method of making vaccinations more accessible is being done at 16 state-run vaccination sites throughout New York. The state says the idea is to help vulnerable seniors who've had a tough time making an appointment online or by phone.

Many residents have said how difficult it's been getting on the state website and making an appointment. This process is much harder for those who are not internet savvy, or don't have internet access at home.

Yonkers resident Henry Maslowski, 82, was one of the many seniors who took advantage of walk-in vaccination access at the National Guard Armory. He says he had been trying to get an appointment for a vaccination but had trouble.

"I could not get an appointment. Finally, I got an appointment at Javits Center, which is very far from here, it's hard to get there," Maslowski says.

He says he was thankful he was instead able to get his shot right in his area.

For residents 60 and older who want to take advantage of this new walk-in vaccination plan, they need to bring ID and insurance information. The site also accepts residents who don't have health insurance.

The National Guard Armory in Yonkers is the only site in the area that will accept walk-ins.

The Westchester County Center and Rockland Community College do not take walk-ins.
