A retired Westchester County Assistant District Attorney has been identified as the swimmer who died during Saturday's Swim Across America event in Larchmont.
Larchmont police say Patrick Moore, 60, of Shrub Oak, went into distress and was immediately pulled by one of the safety boats and taken to the Larchmont Shore Club.
Police say he was already in cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.
Moore was one of 500 swimmers who were taking part in the annual event to raise money to fight cancer.
Moore recently retired after 35 years as a Westchester County Assistant District Attorney.
The district attorney’s office described him as a devoted and distinguished public servant, who will be remembered for his dedication to justice, his sharp wit and generosity of spirit.
