Part of major Yonkers roadway closed after pavement gives way
The Yonkers Police Department says all northbound lanes on Nepperhan Avenue are closed between Axminster Street and Myrtle Street while crews make repairs.

Part of a major roadway in Yonkers is closed after a section of pavement collapsed.
City engineer Paul Summerfield says this was caused by all the flooding from Tuesday's storm.
He says that a lot of debris ran through the pipes during the storm. He thinks that a brick may have been dislodged, creating a hole in the sewer itself, which then led to the collapse.
No one was hurt, but Summerfield said this could take roughly two weeks to repair.
"We've got about a 60-foot section that we need to excavate to remove what's collapsed. So we have a decent-sized section of collapsed pipe," he says.

The Yonkers Police Department says all northbound lanes on Nepperhan Avenue are closed between Axminster Street and Ashburton Avenue while crews make repairs. One southbound lane remains open to traffic.
"It's a very busy road, so having it blocked off is just a major inconvenience. It really throws you off," said Yonkers resident Sarah Confeiterio.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area if possible and expect delays. Police say Sawmill River Road and North Broadway can be used as alternate routes.
Officials have not said how long repairs are expected to take.
