A Yonkers school received a special honor from the mayor this morning.
The Robert C. Dodson School in Yonkers was jubilant today as Mayor Mike Spano honored the school with the city's School Spotlight Award, recognizing the school's exceptional efforts in rebuilding the school community.
The award is bestowed upon four Yonkers public schools throughout the academic year, chosen based on three key criteria: academic success, extracurricular achievements and community involvement.
Spano highlighted the school's dedication to fostering a diverse student population and providing robust support through its Transitional Bilingual Education programs, especially for non-native English speakers.
Principal Romulo Ramirez expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the entire school community, acknowledging the honor bestowed upon them as a testament to their concerted efforts to make every student feel included and valued.
Ramirez said in a statement, "We try to make them feel like they're home. We try to make them feel included. They're family."
This ceremony marks the inaugural presentation of the School Spotlight Award for the academic year. Spano is set to present this prestigious recognition to three more schools as the academic year progresses.
