Commencing on Jan. 1, Rockland Community College is initiating staff furloughs in response to a substantial deficit of $3.4 million, previously highlighted in the fall but without formal furlough announcements.
The college's Board of Trustees approved a strategy to enforce furloughs from January through June. Employees will undergo nine days of furlough, initially occurring once per month and subsequently increasing to two days per month throughout spring. Additionally, there will be layoffs affecting fewer than ten administrative positions, estimated to save over $1.5 million.
A spokesperson emphasized the college's commitment to making necessary adjustments to ensure both fiscal stability and the well-being of its employees.
