A Rockland County couple's mission to pay it forward has impacted the lives of people in 36 states.
Instead of having an extravagant wedding and reception, Ismini and Mark Svensson, of Orangeburg, used all of their funds to start the initiative 50 Acts of Giving Back. It involves performing one act of kindness in all 50 states.
They have helped the homeless, the underprivileged and the disabled. Sometimes their act of kindness is just brightening up someone's day, including the time they visited children at the Rhode Island School for the Deaf.
The initiative was inspired by Ismini Svensson's father, who passed away 10 years ago. Though he couldn't see her get married, she says his generous spirit is always with her.
The couple has been to 36 states in the two years they have been married. They have appeared on Queen Latifah's show, as well as on "NBC Nightly News."
Their next trip is based on suggestions on social media, to get other people involved.
