Police charged a Rockland County firefighter with arson Friday.
Haverstraw police say 22-year-old Jason Toborg of Tompkins Cove is charged with starting a fire at the former Letchworth Village Developmental Center in Stony Point. Authorities say the fire at the vacant building, that occurred on July 8, took several departments and many hours to extinguish. Investigators determined volunteer firefighter Toborg of the Thiells Fire Department was responsible for the blaze.
Just last month, a Spring Valley firefighter was charged with lighting four vacant homes on fire. Fire officials say they may implement a program for new recruits to explain the consequences of arson in hopes of weeding out potential arsonists.
