Several K-9 units in Rockland County received a donation that will be used to purchase temperature-control devices to keep the canine cops cool.

Spring Valley, Clarkston and Ramapo K-9 units will be equipped with temperature monitoring devices to ensure police dogs like Bosco, which is trained to sniff drugs, are comfortable inside the car while waiting to do their job.

A pager will notify the dogs? handlers if the temperature gets too hot.

The grants were provided by the Onyx and Breezy Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that supports a wide range of projects for the welfare of animals.

?They deserve it,? says Mark Shefts, the foundation?s director. ?They're the ones that are out there protecting us, so it's a great donation. It helps [to] make their job easier by being in the right environment with the right temperature and the right controls.?
