Rockland County's GOP chairman is officially in the running to become the next leader of the state Republican Party.

In an interview with Senior Reporter Tara Rosenblum, Lawrence Garvey touted a string of GOP political victories in Democratic-leaning Rockland since he's been chair and says he'd like to replicate that success statewide.

The New City attorney and father of four is hoping to replace outgoing chairman Nick Langworthy, who is heading to Congress in January. 'I'm very excited to do this. I think it's a great opportunity for the New York state Republicans. I'm excited to tell the rest of the state what we've done in Rockland – that we've had more Republican success than any county in-state from where we started and where we are. We do that by bringing in voters," says Garvey.

While the full field of candidates for the chairmanship is still unclear, several other Republicans are reportedly considering a run.

The vote will likely take place at a state convention sometime in February, after Langworthy officially resigns from the post.
