A battle is brewing in Rockland County over how or if county officials spent $11 million out of a private employee account without receiving the proper approval.

County Legislature Chairwoman Harriet Cornell is calling for an investigation into the alleged transaction while county officials insist there is nothing to be investigated.

Cornell claims County Executive Scott Vanderhoef's (R-Rockland) administration stole the money out of a private account that was supposed to cover vacation and holiday pay for employees who leave the county workforce, and used that money to pay other bills.

The chairwoman says she learned of the alleged transfer from financial auditors who just completed reviewing the county's 2010 books.

County officials say they look forward to the state comptroller reviewing their books so everyone can feel confident that they have the most accurate information about the county's finances.
