Rockland police officers are donating their old bulletproof vests to help soldiers in Iraq.
Clarkstown Police Officer Chris Cortelli is about to head overseas with the Marine Corp. After speaking to returning soldiers, Cortelli discovered the need for Kevlar vests, not for the soldiers to wear, but to line the insides of Humvees. The vehicles are not armored, so the vests provide added protection.
The call has gone out to all local and state police as well as federal agents who might have extra vests at home.
