Dozens of health care workers from Rockland Pulmonary in West Nyack went on strike on Tuesday.
Workers, like Patricia White, said they went on a one-day strike because they've been fighting for a fair contract with WMCHealth for eight months.
"You know, we're sick of more work, less pay, not enough pay and being under Westchester Medical...we have looked into wages that are given in Westchester, and they're almost $10 more than what we get over here," White said.
Other employees, like Diana McLean, used the strike to call for the end of what she said is worker intimidation.
"They have said that they will close the office, we won't have jobs if they close this office," McLean said.
Local 1199 SEIU Union leaders, like Angela Lane, said the union filed charges against WMCHealth - accusing the company of breaking federal labor laws.
"That stays with you," Lane said. "Anybody can go on the National Labor Relations Board and look up any company and see if there have ever been any charges. So, then you get a sense of how they treat their employees and how they treat their employees is going to be directly linked to how the community is being treated."
Officials from the health care system sent a statement that said they have bargained in "good faith" by "offering a new contract that would increase salaries" and "preserve benefits for our frontline caregivers."
In their statement, they also said that they hope union leaders will meet with them to reach a good deal.
In the meantime, WMCHealth officials said a contingency plan was put in place on Tuesday to make sure the patients and doctors weren't disrupted during the strike.
The group of striking health care workers said they're not ruling out the possibility of future activations or strikes.
