A veteran from Ulster County got a special helping hand this week.
Marine veteran Raymond Thompson, 84, from Highland, had his entire roof replaced Tuesday for free.
It’s all thanks to a local nonprofit dedicated to helping vets called Rolling Thunder Inc. and the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.
Thompson says the work would have cost about $20,000 and that there’s no way he would have been able to afford it on a fixed income.
“It was just so nice. Everybody was a gentleman, and they could not do enough. I just don’t get it. It’s just too much," said Thompson.
Thompson applied for the roof replacement with the help of his daughter.
