A Rye Brook mom has launched a GoFundMe to raise money for a therapy pool for her son born with a rare genetic syndrome.
Lucas Testerman, 11, was born with a rare genetic syndrome called Coffin Siris syndrome.
Lucas has no eyes, a G-tube for nutrition, he's developmentally delayed and has low muscle tone, which makes things like walking, very difficult.
"He can walk on his own, but he's scared to because he's blind. He sits on the couch everyday. The only thing I can do is put him in his carriage and walk him down the street," said his mother.
But there's one place where none of that matters: the water.
In the water he's not confined to the limits of his body.
"He fell off enough things in his life and bumped into enough things to know that there's always something he might hit or fall off of, but in the pool, he feels just free like he's not going to hurt himself," Testerman told News 12.
So, when the Testerman family moved to their new house, they knew they needed to get a pool - one with a treadmill and a bicycle, like he does in physical therapy every day.
There's only one tiny rub. "They start at like $15-$20,000 roughly and go up," said his mom.
They started a GoFundMe, and a family friend started another one, and with those two combined, they're so close to their goal, they can almost taste it.
