Westchester County officials announced the start of Playland Park's 2025 season at a press conference in White Plains on Wednesday.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins announced that Playland Park is slated to open this Memorial Day weekend.
Jenkins said they're also trying to make opening weekend an accessible occasion for everyone.
"Parking at Playland is going to be reduced to what it was when the county ran it at $10. Admission to the park on Memorial Day weekend is going to be free," Jenkins said.
The announcement comes after an emergency order was issued to expedite the opening of the amusement park's 2025 season.
The order allowed the county to hire Zamperla Inc., to do emergency work to inspect, repair and maintain the rides at the park.
That decision comes as officials navigate a legal dispute with the park's former operator, Standard Amusements.
Deputy Westchester County Executive Richard Wishnie said the former operator left Playland in poor condition.
"There are rusted parts, bad metal support arms, failed electrical components, missing gear boxes," Wishnie said.
Officials from Standard Amusements told News 12 that they "significantly improved" the park.
Jenkins said it's unclear how many rides will be operational during opening weekend.
"At the end of the day, it's gonna be up to the state," Jenkins said.
Despite the unknown, Jenkins said Playland Beach is slated to open as scheduled.
He said the pool is also scheduled to open in June.
Officials said Playland will host upcoming job fairs, if you're interested in working at the park.
