The Salvation Army held their 3rd annual free Thanksgiving brunch Thursday morning in Port Chester.

"As a Salvation Army officer, we are called for that," said Major Aloir Andrade. "We are called to serve the community."

Major Andrade says they began serving breakfast a few years ago because other organizations were not open as they prepare for dinner time. His daughter helps out every year too.

"I love that my Thanksgiving is so different and that I get to see other people. I get to talk to them," said Viviane Andrade-Karpinski.

Hundreds of people have been fed here through this event since it started.

News 12 saw many more on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

We spoke with volunteers who helped dish out food.

"I thought it would be nice to help out people who need a little help," said Ross Goldstein of Scarsdale.

"The Salvation Army has done a lot for my family. They've always been there for us, it's always been a community for me," said Van Urena of Hempstead. "So I'm more than happy to come in, in the mornings, to help out, give out to the community, because this place has done so much for me."

This Salvation Army Port Chester Corps says their pantry serves more than 1,500 families each month.
