Rockland school resource officers conducted a drill Thursday aimed at teaching students and teachers to protect themselves in case of a school shooting.
During the exercise, officers were placed in the position of victims sitting in a classroom with a gunman on the loose. Gregg Crane, of Response Options, says the goal of the drill was to see if it is possible for victims of an attack to defend themselves or escape.
Thursday's exercise comes nearly three months after a gunman walked into South Orangetown Middle School and confronted Superintendent Ken Mitchell, who fought back and disarmed the man.
