A permanent funding fix for the World Trade Center Health Program could be on the horizon.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., says the funding is included in the stopgap budget bill unveiled Tuesday in Washington D.C. Schumer says the money will remedy the program’s deficit, which is projected to be around $3.5 billion.

The program pays medical bills for people with health conditions related to exposure at Ground Zero following the Sept. 11 attacks.

Officials say 132,000 people benefit from it.

The bill is expected to pass next week.
