State Sen. Mike Martucci has introduced "Billy's Law."
The legislation would require bail and pre-trial detention for all felony arson charges.
This comes after Forestburgh Fire Company Assistant Chief Billy Steinberg died in the line of duty last month.
He was responding to a fire allegedly set by a serial arsonist.
The suspect in the fire had been arrested the day before for previous charges but released due to the state's bail reform law.
