A new life-sized sculpture that pays tribute to those lost on Sept. 11 was installed Thursday in Croton.

The sculpture, named "Reaching Through the Shadow," is on display along the Croton River Walk. It was designed by architect James Rhodes, who included a 14-foot steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center as a sun dial in the middle of the sculpture.

The sculpture was brought to life by Croton artist Lauren Davis, who spent 18 months working on it. Davis says the idea behind her work is mourning but also celebrating what is left.

The memorial is open to the public and will be officially dedicated on Sept. 11 this year.
