Snow and ice caused treacherous driving conditions and major problems on area roadways Wednesday.
Numerous accidents are being blamed on the weather, including a jack-knifed oil tanker on Route 17A in Greenwood Lake. Police say the accident closed the mountain road in both directions, stranding dozens of cars.
One stuck driver told News 12 he was heading home to his parents' house in Warwick for Thanksgiving. "We've been stuck for two hours. There's a tractor-trailer up there, so we got stuck behind that. Then we got stuck behind some other cars and now a tow truck and plow," lamented Evan Whalen, of Warwick.
Whalen drove backward in slick snow, while others waited for their stuck cars to be towed.
Emergency officials say at least 100 accidents and even more spin outs were reported.
