A former Westchester social worker has been sentenced to five years' probation for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from an elderly client, according to the state Attorney General’s Office.

Chantel Chenault pleaded guilty to grand larceny last June.

Over a five-year period, authorities say Chenault fraudulently withdrew and spent funds belonging to a 95-year-old woman who was suffering from dementia.

When Chenault went on medical leave, a new caseworker noticed discrepancies.

A guardian assigned to the elderly woman was able to secure nearly $900,000 in restitution from Westchester County for the victim.

Chenault must pay back that amount to the county as part of her sentence.
