Some students at Westchester Community College cast their first-ever ballots in a presidential election on Tuesday.
"This election, there feels like a lot at stake,” says Noah Soto, a student and first-time voter.
For Soto, voting was something she always wanted to do.
"I have immigrant parents so it feels good being able to vote for the people who can't,” says Soto. "I felt really connected to the issues that are being brought up in this election, the things that are really close to my heart and important to me.”
She’s not the only one who has always wanted to vote.
"It was my first time voting and it was a long line but if felt good to vote,” says Jeremy Olave, a student and first-time voter.
Student voters also talked with SUNY Chancellor John King about their voting experience and civic involvement on campus.
"We want our students to participate in our democracy,” says King.
Some student voters have been encouraging others to vote through organizations they’re a part of on campus – like the Student Government Association.
"I've been telling a lot of my friends just to go out a vote because it's important to have a say in something,” says Olave.
