The Newburgh Board of Education hired an independent investigator last week during a special meeting to look into the claims of misconduct.
The details are currently slim, but a district source tells News12 they surround a "top district official" who has been accused of misconduct.
News 12 does know from online documents that the investigation has to do with district policy surrounding discrimination.
The information released does not say what the allegations are or who is involved.
That investigator will be paid $250 an hour.
News 12 reached out to the Newburgh school district, but it said it doesn't comment on personnel matters.
