Fresh off a landslide election night victory, it appears Westchester County Executive George Latimer could be back on the campaign trail within weeks.
Multiple sources tell News 12 that the popular Democrat is at the top of a very short list of potential running mates for gubernatorial hopeful Letitia James, who gave him a glowing endorsement on election night in a one-on-one interview with News 12.
James and News 12's Tara Rosenblum discussed the pivotal role suburban counties like Nassau and Westchester will play in determining the next governor of New York.
Latimer is a former Rye councilman, county legislator, state assemblyman and state senator, with 20 consecutive political wins under his belt - -a record in New York.
But does he have any interest in adding lieutenant governor to that resume? While George Latimer tells News 12 that the official call hasn't come in, he admits he likes the idea.
"If I can offer a viable team to New York and voters just like we did in Westchester County twice, I would seriously look at it going forward," he says.
News 12 was told that the decision could be just days away.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has already announced her plans to run for a full term next year.
The Republicans running for governor include Rep. Lee Zeldin and former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino.
