Spring Valley: Convict works for mayor, not Building Dept.

A day after reports emerged indicating that a convicted felon was working for the Spring Valley Building Department, News 12 has learned that's not the case -- but he is working for the mayor's office.

Village officials say Anthony Mallia, a former Ramapo building inspector, is on probation for tampering with public records and undercharging contractors for permits in 2016.

Jeff Millman, head of the Spring Valley Building Department, says Mallia makes no contributions to his agency at all. As for Mallia's role in the mayor's office, it remains unclear.

"I believe he works out of the mayor's office in an appointed position," Millman says. "I truly don't know what his position entails or what his title is."

Millman later added that "if there's no prohibition from him getting a job in a municipality, then he should have a right to get whatever job from whatever employer is willing to retain him."

Mayor Alan Simon was unavailable to comment.

The Rockland County District Attorney's office declined to comment on Mallia's village position.
